Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the PetSec app, website, tags, and subscription, provided by PETSEC (PTY) LTD (reg. 2026/330801/07), Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa. By creating an account or buying a PetSec tag, you agree to these terms.

1. What PetSec is

PetSec is a community-based pet tracking service. You attach a Bluetooth (BLE) tag to your pet's collar. When your pet goes missing and another PetSec member's phone passes within Bluetooth range of the tag, we alert you with an approximate location.

2. Your account

• You must be 18 or older and provide accurate information.
• We verify your phone number with a one-time code sent via WhatsApp. You're responsible for keeping access to your phone and account secure.
• You're responsible for the accuracy of your home address and GPS location, which we use to assign your coverage area and to verify tag activation.

3. Tags

• PetSec tags are sold at the price shown at checkout (currently R299 per tag, one-off). Ownership of the physical tag passes to you on delivery.
• A tag must be activated by scanning it at your registered home address before it works on the network.
• Tags use a replaceable coin-cell battery. Battery life varies (roughly 6–12 months). You may replace the battery yourself or order a new tag — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy and in-app guidance.
• Faulty tags are covered — see section 7 of the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

4. Subscription & billing

• The PetSec subscription is R49 per month for your first pet and R29 per month for each additional pet.
• Your first month is free after you activate your first tag. Billing starts after that.
• The subscription renews monthly and is charged automatically through our payment gateway, PayFast, until you cancel.
• If your pet count changes, we'll show you the new monthly amount and ask you to confirm before it takes effect.
• You can cancel any time from the app. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy for what happens after you cancel.

5. Payments

All payments are processed by PayFast under their own terms. We never see or store your card or banking details. Prices are in South African Rand and include VAT where applicable.

6. Acceptable use

• Use PetSec only for tracking pets you own or are responsible for.
• Don't use the service to track or locate people, or for any unlawful, harassing, or harmful purpose.
• Don't interfere with, reverse-engineer, or attempt to disrupt the network or other members' use of it.

7. Privacy

Your use of PetSec is also governed by our Privacy Notice, which explains what we collect and how we protect it.

8. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, and without limiting any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, we are not liable for a pet not being found, for gaps in network coverage, for tag battery depletion, or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or is used unlawfully. You may close your account at any time from the app (Settings → Delete account), which cancels your subscription and deactivates your tags.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material, we'll notify you by email or in-app before it takes effect. Continuing to use PetSec after that means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and you submit to the jurisdiction of the South African courts. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 are not affected.
